Working as a Teaching Assistant Award at London Learning Consortium
These qualifications are aimed at anyone interested in or starting out in a career in Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools. It is a knowledge-based qualification, and can be taken by learners not yet employed in a school, as well as providing initial training/induction for those new in post. It seeks to develop the knowledge and understanding that all those working in a school setting.
This is an award which covers areas such as safeguarding, communication and relationships, child development and understanding the school context. To complete the level 2 award, learners must achieve 9 credits from the mandatory units listed below.
• Child and young person development, unit 201 (2 credits)
• Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people, unit 202 (3 credits)
• Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults, unit 203 (2 credits)
• Equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people, unit 204 (2 credits).
• Schools as organizations, unit 205 (3 credits)
For this course learners will need good written skills to at least level 1 standard (this will be assessed at enrolment)
This course is assessed by learners completing 5 written assignments which are internally assessed and externally moderated and certificated by City & Guilds.

You can apply for teaching support roles in schools, or go onto higher level qualifications including the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools, which you will need to source a work placement for. Once you are employed, you can consider undertaking the Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching & learning in Schools.
