Equine Care - Level 2 at Askham Bryan College

Course description

This study programme is designed to provide a broad understanding of the principles of equine management.  The students will develop practical skills in stable management and riding alongside academic studies.    

 

Course content

Course Themes:

• Feeding and watering horses • Routine stable duties • Horse tack and clothing • Horse handling • Equine health and welfare • Lunging horses • Work related experience • English and maths where applicable 

 

 

 

Entry requirements

Level 2 Study Programmes:

Usually at least 4 GCSEs at grade 3 (old GCSE grade D) or above to include two from Maths English and Science with at least a grade 2 (old GCSE grade E)  in the remaining subject. Alternatively a suitable Level 1 vocational qualification with English and Maths at Level 1.

For all courses involving horse riding modules, entry is subject to an evaluation of your riding ability and fitness levels. It is usual that we have a weight limit of 16 stone for these elements of the course.

Ongoing assessment through assignments and practical tasks with formal controlled assessments where applicable

Practical work within the equine industry such as: assistant yard manager, grooms at riding schools, livery yards or competition yards.
