Work Skills BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate at Adeyfield School

Course description

The aim of the work skills course is to give those students who may not be naturally academic the chance shine, whilst equipping them with the skills to become a valued member or society and achieving economic stability.

The extended certificate in work skills is an 18 credit qualification, 13 credits are mandatory and 5 credits can be carefully selected by the learner in conjunction with their tutor.

Course content

Option 1 - Work Skills Enterprise Strand

Learners who are interested in starting their own business may choose this option. Learners will be required to set up their own mini enterprise, trade, lead, work in a team and evaluate theirs and others performance.

5 core credits:

  • Unit 28 Planning and Enterprise Activity (1)
  • Unit 29 Running an Enterprise Activity (1)
  • Unit 16 Working in a Team (3)

As well as 9 credits from the following:

  • Unit 25 Contributing to Meetings (1)
  • Unit 8 Self Management Skills (2)
  • Unit 9 Self Assessment (2)
  • Unit 11 Developing Personal Skills for Leadership (2)  
  • Unit 11 Developing Personal Skills for Leadership (2)
  • Unit 30 Producing a Product (1)

Option 2 - Work Skills Work Experience Strand

This Extended Certificate could be delivered through work experience preparation and delivery time. In addition some units such as Interview Skills could be embedded in English Lessons. Units can be delivered as part of PSHE.

3 core credits:

  • Unit 26 Preparing for Work Placement ( 1)
  • Unit 27 Learning for Work Placement ( 2)

As well as 10 credits from the following:  

  • Unit 6 Preparing for an Interview (1)
  • Unit 7 Interview Skills(2)
  • Unit 8 Self Management Skills (2)
  • Unit 9 Self Assessment(2)
  • Unit 15 Effectiveness at Work (1)
  • Unit 20 Investigating Rights and Responsibilities at Work(1)
  • Unit 21 Managing Your Health at Work (1)
  • Unit 23 Solving Work-Related Problems

Assessment

All units within these qualifications are internally assessed and externally verified. The qualifications are criterion referenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes. To achieve a ‘pass’ a learner must have successfully passed all the assessment criteria in all units studied. A range of assessment methods are used throughout the course with a large emphasis placed on experiential learning, where students are given the chance to acquire and apply the knowledge and skills that they have learnt about and practised in lessons then apply them to a real life enterprise/business opportunity.
