Exercise and Fitness Instructing (CYQ Level1) offered as part of a full time Level 3 programme at Sandown Bay Academy

Course description

This qualification is particularly relevant for those who may want to improve their knowledge of exercise, fitness, health and well-being. It is an excellent choice for candidates who may be studying an alternative curriculum. It is a particularly good tool for re-engaging young people into both study and physical activity, as well as preparing candidates for Level 2 qualifications. Candidates will learn: •To plan and perform their own exercise programme •To assist a qualified fitness instructor in teaching exercise and fitness sessions •To understand the body and its response to exercise •To understand the principles of training •To recognise and be able to correct poor technique ASSESSMENT: Internally via: •Planning and applying an exercise programme •Practical assessment •Evaluation Externally via: •Theory paper (set and marked by CYQ)

Entry requirements

There are no formal pre-requisites to this qualification BUT the following are recommended: •Experience in basic exercise instruction •Knowledge of exercise and health, preferably GCSE PE Science and English at Grade D and above •Confidence and enthusiasm! •Skills of organisation and effective time-management •Good personal exercise technique •A love of hard work!
