Travel and Tourism AS/A Level at The Ripley Academy
AS – Travel Destinations, Customer Service and Introducing Travel and Tourism
A Level – Event Management, Ecotourism and Tourism Development.
Two thirds of the course is assessed by coursework and one third is assessed by exams. The coursework elements are based upon field work excursions, which the students base their assessed projects on. The Travel Destinations work is based on a residential visit to a European short haul destination, (e.g. Paris, Venice, Barcelona) this visit is organised by A2 students as part of their Event Management Unit. The Ecotourism unit is based upon a residential visit to the Peak District and Customer Service involves visiting Breadsall Priory Hotel. Students take part in two European short haul visits as part of the two year Travel and Tourism A-Level course.
Students do not need to have studied Travel and Tourism at Key Stage 4.
The Travel and Tourism Course is directly related to a wide variety of careers due to the range of skills developed on the course, they include project management, developing good customer service skills, working both individually as well as part of a team. The course is directly related to careers in the rapidly expanding travel and tourism service industries, for example hotel management.
