Course description

Whether you're starting out, or experienced but needing to formally recognise your skills, this programme provides entry into a rewarding career that could enable progression to a range of jobs in the aquatics and fishery industry.

A fish husbandry and fishery management apprentice can work alongside employees at an aquatic shop, a fish farm, a public aquarium or a sports fishery. The ideal apprentice will have a passion for fish and their environment and will be keen to help out on a range of tasks that may include outdoor work in all weathers.

Course content

The programme will cover the principles and practice of fish biology, water quality and aquatic environments which will include feeding, movement and welfare of fish stocks.

An apprenticeship will also help develop a professional working style, safe working practices, awareness of the work environment and communicating effectively with colleagues and customers. Other skills could include functional skills needed in the work place (Maths, English) and additional certificates required for work.

The Level 2 Fish Husbandry and Fishery Management Apprenticeship provides a flexible programme to enable apprentices to work in any area of the fishery industry including aquatic shops, garden centres, fish farms, sports fisheries at rivers or lakes and public aquaria.
