History A Level at Bitterne Park School

Course description

A-Level History provides a broad and coherent course of study.

The course requires students to study the history of more than one country or state, or the history of more than one period. It also covers aspects of the past in breadth, through period(s) or theme(s), and in-depth. Further course content includes significant individuals, societies, events, developments and issues within a broad historical context and developments affecting different groups within the societies studied. Finally, students explore a range of appropriate historical perspectives, for example: aesthetic; cultural; economic; ethnic; political; religious; scientific; social or technological.

  • AS Unit 1 – USA 1890-1945
  • AS Unit 2 – Hitler, Anti-Semitism and the German People 1918-1945 
  • A2 Unit 3 – Britain 1951 – 2007
  • A2 Unit 4 – Coursework

Why this course

A Level History promotes an understanding of change and development over time. It also contains a substantial British history requirement, enabling students to further develop their political and cultural identity within the modern global community.

Entry requirements

Students should obtain 5 A* - C GCSE passes including History.
