Engineering - Electrical Apprenticeship at Furness College

Course description

This apprenticeship covers a wide range of vocational areas from electrical engineering to mechanical engineering to fabrication & welding.

Course content

Apprentice Level 2
Units studied may include: marking out for engineering activities, maintaining electronic systems and equipment, installing electrical wiring support systems, wiring and testing electrical circuits and building and testing electronic circuits.

Advanced Apprentice Level 3
Units studied may include: preparing resources for complex engineering activities, complex assembly of electrical products, using and communicating technical information and determining requirements to achieve engineering objectives.

Entry requirements

These are dependent on the sector and the criteria of some employers, but they are normally:

Apprentice Level 2: A minimum of four GCSEs at grades A – E or an equivalent qualification.

Advanced Apprentice Level 3: An Apprenticeship at Level 2 or other equivalent qualification

Higher Level Apprenticeship Level 4: These are available in some subject areas; but in all instances you will need to be already qualified to Level 3.

Assessment

The apprenticeship is assessed on practical aptitude, a portfolio of work and external assessment. The technical certificate is assessed in your lessons through assignments set by your tutors. Maths and English are assessed by examination and a portfolio of evidence.

Financial information

You will need overalls, boots, stationery and drawing equipment.

Future opportunities

Once the Apprenticeship has finished there is the opportunity to carry on working, maybe get promoted or if appropriate, progress onto advanced level apprenticeships. In some instances you can go on to higher education in a college or university.
