Construction Maintenance Level 2 at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College*

Course description

This course is aimed at 16–18 year olds and is designed to enable students to build on a level 1 qualification and develop further knowledge and skills in construction maintenance.

Course content

Students work in a modern workshop environment, where they can learn practical skills and carry out small-scale repairs in various trades in the construction sector, namely for the following trades:

  • building repairs (brickwork)
  • painting and decorating repairs
  • plastering repairs
  • plumbing repairs
  • carpentry repairs.

Theory classes are also delivered and include relative trade knowledge including Health and Safety, Management of materials etc. Numeracy and Communication skills are embedded within the course.

Entry requirements

Candidates will ideally have completed the level 1 course.


Practical experience will be gained in the workshop through practical activities and assessments. Underpinning knowledge will be delivered in the classroom and IT suite, where study will be interactive and informative.

Future opportunities

Level 2 NVQ maintenance or other trade related areas.

There are many different specialist roles within the industry. Employers will be looking for a minimum of a level 2 NVQ or an apprenticeship at an equivalent level. This course provides an excellent foundation upon which to build a career within the construction industry.
