Physics A Level at Longfield Academy

Course description

This course provides knowledge of units, physical quantities and measurements. Topics studied include: vectors and scalars, mechanics, mechanical properties of matter, electric circuits, waves, matter, quantum and nuclear physics, magnetic and electrical fields. The course includes practical skills and is highly mathematical.

 

 

Entry requirements

Overall requirement for Post 16:
5 A* - C at GCSE (English and mathematics grade 4). Max 2 BTECs at merit can count. 
Subject specific requirements:
BB in science core and additional   6 in mathematics 
 

Assessment

Assessed by written examinations 
Practical skills are assessed directly through core practicals.
AS: two written papers 1h 30mins each
A Level: two written papers 1h 45mins each plus paper 3, 2h 30mins

Physics is a very useful qualification for a variety of careers, as well as involving the acquisition of valuable knowledge and useful skills. Some of these careers are medicine, the armed forces, police, fire service, teaching, computer analysis, telecommunications, electronic engineering, transport and research. A knowledge of Physics is becoming increasingly important in a modern technological world.
