Graphic Design A Level at Strode College

Course description

This course encourages students to develop their creativity in response to design briefs. You will develop investigative and analytical skills alongside an appreciation of other art and design disciplines. As you work to meet the design briefs you will develop skills in visual communication through print, packaging, illustration and advertising. You will be guided in the use of Adobe Creative Suite, industrial software which is used to produce work to a professional standard.

Course content

A Level Graphic Design combines well with a number of other subjects and can lead onto a range of degrees and careers in the creative media industries. Students are advised to take no more than two A Level visual or performance related subjects due to the quantity of coursework, deadlines and exam dates (Art and Design, Graphic Design, Textiles, Photography, Music, Music Technology, Drama and Theatre Studies, Dance).

You will be taught on specialist Apple Macintosh computer suites using professional software Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Our End of Year Arts Show, which is open to the public, is a highlight of the year, with final year students exhibiting their work around college in professional gallery settings.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grades A* - C or equivalent. You should have obtained a minimum of grade C or above in one of the GCSE Art subjects and present a portfolio of your work at interview.

This course is assessed through coursework and a controlled test.

Financial information

An external, portable hard-drive with large storage space to store digital work is recommended.
