ICT Cambridge Technical Level 3 at Teignmouth Community School

Course description

The Cambridge Technicals in IT have been developed to meet the changing needs of the sector, and prepare your students for the challenges they’ll face in Higher Education or employment. These qualifications aim to develop the students’ knowledge and understanding of the principles of IT and Global Information Systems.

Students will gain an insight into the IT sector as they investigate the pace of technological change, IT infrastructure, and the flow of information on a global scale and the importance of legal and security considerations.

The Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in IT and Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma in IT consists of a increasing number of units from a broad range of areas: e.g. Project Management, Product Development, Systems Analysis and Design, Mobile Technology, Social Media and Digital Marketing, Developing a Smarter Planet, Internet of Everything, Computer Systems – Hardware OR Computer Systems – Software, Big Data Analytics ..

Course content

There are three mandatory units; “Fundamentals of IT”, “Global Information”, and “Computer Networks” and four Vocational Pathways, namely IT Infrastructure Technician, Emerging Digital Technology Practitioner, Application Developed, and Data Analyst. Each Pathway include a wide range of optional units. You will have to follow and achieve one pathway. As much as possible we try to allow the self-motivated student, who can work independently and to deadlines, to choose those optional units. We begin with the mandatory units and assess how well students are able to work well, to then decide on the degree of flexibility that is appropriate.

Entry requirements

A Grade C or above in GCSE Computing or an interest in ICT and grade 5 or above in GCSE mathematics. A good work ethic is a pre-requisites. The options are varied, and there is some flexibility in choosing units that suit you, it is vital that students are able to work independently when necessary.
