A Level Physical Education at Brentwood Ursuline Convent High School

Course description

A level Physical education offers the opportunity to study sport through a multidisciplinary approach, using physiology, psychology, sociology and history. this course is for students who love their sport and want to develop their understanding of performance through academic study. the course is mainly taught in the classroom and requires students to study, research and produce high quality analytical work. Students are expected to belong to a relevant sports club, where they can receive high quality coaching to improve their performance throughout the year.

AS Level (Year 12)

Unit 1 An introduction to Physical education theory topics covered: Anatomy and Physiology, Acquiring Movement Skills and Socio-Cultural Studies

Unit 2 Acquiring, developing and evaluating practical skills in PE: two sports chosen and an oral evaluation performed on one sport.

A2 Level (Year 13)

Unit 3 Principles and concepts across different areas of Physical education. Theory topics covered: Historical Studies, Sport Psychology and exercise and Sport Physiology.

Unit 4 the improvement and evaluation of Practical performance in Physical Activities. One sport chosen from the previous year, with an oral evaluation performed of this sport.

Entry requirements

Grade B in GCSE Pe, grade A English, grade B Biology.At least one sport played to a high standard.
