Childcare Early Years Care & Education - Foundation Vocational at Eccles Sixth Form College
Do you want to be a primary school teacher or teacher of early years? Then this is the course for you. You will benefit from being taught by knowledgeable members of staff that have experience of working in schools, nurseries and the health service. You will also receive quality practical training from our excellent network of work placements: At advanced level, the qualifications have been approved by the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) as full and relevant Early Years Educator (EYE) qualifications
You will study a variety of topics such as:
- Child development
- Keeping children safe and healthy
- Play, learning and education
- Caring for children
- Communication and professional skills
- Supporting children with additional needs
Work experience placements are an essential and mandatory element of this course. At intermediate and advanced level, you will complete two days per week in placement and three days per week in college. You will also gain employability skills. At advanced level you will complete a minimum of 750 hours work placement (over two years) across a minimum of two different settings and a minimum of 100 hours with the following age ranges:
- From birth to 1 years and 11 months
- From 2 years to 4 years and 11 months
- From 5 years to 7 years and 11 months
E/Fs at GCSE / 1/2s
The majority of units are assessed through assignments. Some units are externally assessed by the awarding body via controlled assessment and at some levels there is a small unit exam. You must also complete mandatory placement hours and a portfolio of evidence to successfully achieve the qualification.
All full-time courses are free to 16-18 year olds who are an EU citizen
Upon successful completion of this course, students have obtained a variety of different careers including roles as a teaching assistant, working in a hospital as a play worker, creche worker, community nursery nurse, nanny, childminder, and au pair. At advanced level, the course also offers access to a variety of university degrees including primary education and early years teaching.
