Hair and Beauty Studies - Foundation Diploma at University Academy Keighley
This is an exciting opportunity to participate in a brand new course that involves a range of Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy Skills. It will give you the knowledge and skills that you will need for college, university or work in an exciting, creative and enjoyable way.
Learners studying for the Foundation Diploma in Hair and Beauty Studies must achieve the Principal Learning Qualification. The Principal Learning Qualification in the Diploma in Hair and Beauty Studeis is made up from 7 units. All are mandatory. These are as follows:Introducing the hair and beauty sectorCreating a positive impression in the hair and beauty sectorIntroducing hair stylingIntroducing basic skin care treatmentsIntroducing basic hand and nail care servicesPersonal appearance, styling and well-beingThe Diploma will also include Principal Learning, a Project and General Learning including Functional Skills, ICT, English, Mathematics and English.The Diploma is a great new way of combining class work with hands on experience. This new qualification allows lots of opportunity to come into contact with people who are employed in this industry. You will learn how to work with other people and express yourself confidently in a work environment by developing personl, learning and thinking skills.The Foundation Diploma is the equivalent of 5 GCSEs at grades D - G.
You will need to demonstrate a general interest in Hair and Beauty. You will also need a recommendation from your school or a suitable reference and will be required to attend an interview.If you are under 16 this is a two year course; over 16 it is a one year course.
There are several ways this course is assessed.By building up a portfolio of evidenceThrough practical demonstrationsPractical assignmentsA written examinationThe Diploma is graded A*/A/BYou will be expected to provide basic equipment such as pens, pencils and paper. You will be expected to find some of your own resources for practical sessions and your portfolios. There ma be a requirement to pay some travel costs if going out to an employer's premises for work experience opportunities.
The qualification will provide opportunities for progression onto the next Diploma level or NVQ or apprenticeship programmes.Employers have bee involved in the development of the Diploma. The course offers progression opportunities for future employment within the Hair and Beauty sectors and related industries This new course has been developed with Habia (Sector Skills Council) and employers.
