Art and Design at St Julie's Catholic High School

Course description

Art will encourage students to develop an interest in, enthusiasm for, and enjoyment of art, craft and design. It will also give them the experience of working with a broad range of media, including traditional and new media and technologies.

The AS consists of individual exploration of an openended theme by experimentation of media and techniques and artist research. This work is mainly contained in a sketchbook with a view to classroom development of final
piece(s) in at least 2 of the following endorsements (Fine Art, Textile Design, 3 Dimensional Design).

As well as pursuing the development of coursework, the student is expected to produce specific homework
assignments and report on a visit to local galleries accompanied by an illustrated evaluation of that visit. Trips for students are a regular event. In the past three years, trips have included Florence and Barcelona.
