Dance at The Blandford School

Course description

As well as being rewarding in its own right, Dance relates well to other A Levels in a wide variety of areas, including the performing and creative arts and humanities subjects. Dance is one of the fastest growing areas in education at present and is widely recognised and respected at Higher Education level.

Are you interested in:  Dance, or physical theatre?  The Performing Arts including composition staging, costume and lighting?  20th and 21st century culture?  Fitness and the human body?  Collaborating with others as well as independent learning?  Developing confidence and self expression?

Course content

Practical dance technique, performance and choreography in a range of dance styles, eventually focusing on one area of strength;  Appreciation and analysis of professional dance works and physical theatre productions;  The history of modern dance, looking at a diverse range of professional dance works and choreographers;  Constituent features of dance: set design, costume, lighting, and aural setting;  Physical factors relating to dance and the embodiment of technical principles anatomy and psychological factors relating to performance.

Entry requirements

C in English and Performing Arts. You should also have some natural ability in the subject and be dedicated to the course.
