Business BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate at Brimsham Green School
The Extended Certificate is for learners who are interested in learning about the business sector alongside other fields of study. It is the equivalent of 1 A level.
The course is designed to broaden pupils understand and knowledge of business and to develop important personal, academic and business skills. This level 3 programme compromises of 4 units delivered over two years which cover fundamental business disciplines
as well as specialised areas to further enhance knowledge.
Unit 1 Exploring Business - learners study the purposes of different businesses, their structure, the effect of the external environment, and how they need to be dynamic and innovative to survive.
Unit 2 Developing a Marketing campaign - learners will gain skills relating to and an understanding of how a marketing campaign is developed.
Unit 3 Personal and Business Finance – learners will learn about the importance of well managed finance and how to create accurate financial documents such as budgets and Profit and Loss accounts.
Unit 8 Recruitment and Selection – learners will undertake the process of recruitment helping them appreciate the importance of staff to an organisation.
The course will be made up of 4 units, three of which are mandatory and two of these will be assessed externally. Externally assessed work comprises 58% of the course.

Unit 2 Developing a Marketing campaign (mandatory unit) – externally assessed
Unit 3 Personal and Business Finance (mandatory unit) – externally assessed
Unit 8 Recruitment and Selection – coursework submission
The successful completion of this course may lead pupils to higher education as this course holds UCAS points (one quarter of all university places are now Business degrees). Students may also progress to employment or higher level apprenticeships.
