AS/A ITALIAN at Peter Symonds College

Course description

The AS qualification will consist of two units:

  • Unit 1: Oral examination
  • Unit 2: Listening, reading and writing.

The A2 qualification will comprise an additional two units:

  • Unit 3: Oral examination
  • Unit 4: Translation and writing

Both at AS and A2 students will be able to acquire advanced linguistic skills by means of a topic-based approach to the study of the language. They will have the opportunity to study the relevant issues of the day, which affect Italy and Italians. These will include: health, drugs, organised crime, the environment, the European dimension, the media, politics and current affairs.

Entry requirements

5 A* - C GCSE's, including Maths and English plus a grade B at GCSE Italian to start the AS course.

Students with a Grade B at GCSE will be required to attend an extra support session in their first term.
