Creative Digital Media (Film Production) - BTEC National L3 Diploma at The Milton Keynes Academy
This vocational course is available to any student, whether or not you have studied Creative Media previously.
This course is for you if you want to continue your education through applied study and aim to progress possibly in the Creative Industries with a focus in television and film.
The course develops your professional understanding of the industry and introduces film and television production skills. You will understand how to write proposals and pitches for a commission and to develop a film and television treatment outlining your ideas and concepts.
You will learn to work together in teams and individually to produce film and television projects. Through optional units in areas such as editing, camera techniques, lighting and scriptwriting you will develop your technical skills to gain an understanding of roles and responsibilities within the industry.
There is a mixture of internal (67%) and external (33%) assessment. You will produce a portfolio of coursework that will be internally assessed. You will also complete set tasks under controlled conditions that are assessed externally. A grading scale of Pass, Merit or Distinction is applied to all work.
The coursework will be evidenced through practical assignments, oral presentations/demonstrations, written reports and project work. Due to the coursework aspect of this course you will need to ensure that you are organised and enjoy spending time working through a range of individual tasks.
This course is equivalent in size to two A-Levels.
- Pass is equivalent to an E at A Level
- Merit is equivalent to a C at A Level
- Distinction is equivalent to an A at A Level
- Distinction* is equivalent to an A* at A Level
4 GCSEs A*-C (or equivalent), including minimum D grade English & Maths.

This course, alongside other Level 3 qualifications, provides the necessary entry requirements for a wide range of higher education courses including HNDs and full degree courses.
A significant proportion of recruitment in this sector is at graduate level. By studying this qualification, you will develop your knowledge of digital processes and software through practical projects which will give you an advantage if applying for entry level roles within the film and television industry. The focus on technical skills in film and television allows students to apply for apprenticeships in areas such as:
- Production Lighting
- Studio operations
- Studio facilities
