Construction Craft Level 1 Diploma at Burnley College

Course description

This practical course provides an introduction in one of four craft trades; in addition to theory topics relating to health and safety in the construction industry and working at height.

Health and Safety, Principles of Building and Working at Height are essential modules delivered at this early stage to ensure the safety of all in the workplace and to meet industry requirements.

Our Construction courses are taught in our outstanding new two bespoke Construction buildings and Centre for Engineering Excellence built in 2015, providing the most up-to-date environment possible to develop your skills in a number of trades.

Entry requirements

Two GCSEs at grade D or above including English Language are desirable, along with the successful completion of the BTEC Introduction to Construction programme with Merit grades.


Students will be assessed on a range of practical skills with a synoptic end test. Additionally, you will sit a range of modular exams, linked to each of the practical elements of the programme.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of this course will enable progression to a work based learning programme via Themis within the college or advancement to the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Construction.
