Music A-Level at The Nottingham Emmanuel School

Course description

This course offers an opportunity to develop performance, composition and listening skills across a wide variety of genres, through practical projects, public performance and music technology recording opportunities.

Course content

All students will be engaged in:

  • Performance workshops including individual coaching
  • Theoretical aspects of the history and analysis of Music
  • Composition projects in our state of the art Music Technology suite
  • An exchange trip to Memphis in Year 12/13

Entry requirements

Students should have a minimum of a Grade B in Music GCSE or at least Grade 4 in their first instrument. Where this course has not been studied at GCSE, a short interview will be required with the Head of Department/Director of Sixth Form

Future opportunities

Music is a multidisciplinary subject which encompasses a wide variety of skills from performance and interpretation of data to analysis of complex structures and concepts. Perhaps for this reason alone, Music appeals to both scientists and artists. Music A Level is popular with universities who appreciate the breadth of skills required and students often go on to read Music, Engineering, Archaeology, Music Technology, English and Performing Arts

Independent learners committed to personalised learning and participation in key ensemble work in school, including participation in enrichment activities. Students should be creative and innovative thinkers with a mature attitude to teamwork.
