Art Graphic Communication at Sandbach School

Course description


Students receive in-depth training on Adobe Photoshop Elements at the beginning of the course to enable them to develop skills and knowledge to be able to work independently on design tasks throughout the course. The course is then centred around developing excellent practice in Graphic Communication looking at contemporary practice and developing an awareness of the industry.

Unit 1: A design & marketing exercise centred around promoting tourism within a large city. Students will explore a range of contemporary sources including the work of other designers to develop their own highly personal response to the brief. Students will get the opportunity to develop their skills is the use of CS5 and Illustrator.

Unit 2: The externally set assignment. Students choose from a range of starting point and develop an investigation in response. Students can work with a wide range of approaches and methods from digital media & web design through to hand made illustration and animation.


Students build upon the skills and knowledge developed at AS working with greater autonomy. Students receive further training using specialist software to enable them to progress.

Unit 3: .A flexible Unit, from a range of provided starting points students will explore a range of marketing and promotional campaign graphics to develop a highly personal, creative outcome. Students will get the opportunity to undertake CS5 workshops, including InDesign software, recording their progress throughout the Unit by creating their own online blog.
