Physical Education A Level at Lydiard Park Academy

Course description

Physical Education at A Level with inspire you to pursue a career in the sport and leisure industry. You will develop skills that will increase your physical competence. Develop your knowledge, understanding and effectiveness in physical activity. You will understand the diversity of the sports industry and the components that have an impact upon participation and performance.

Course content

AS: Unit 1: Anatomy and Physiology, Skill Acquisition & Movement skills and Socio-Cultural Aspects of Sport. Unit 2: Acquiring, developing and evaluating practical skills in PE. Two practical sports are assessed during AS year.

A2: Unit 3: Exercise Physiology, Sports Psychology and Historical Studies Unit 4: The improvement of effective performance and the critical evaluation of practical activities in PE. One practical sport is assessed during A2.

Entry requirements

A successful student will need: ● A* to B or above in GCSE PE and/or Science. ● Practically very strong in at least 1 sport. ● Determined, self-motivated and committed. ● Interested in learning about sport and it's components. ● Work well independently and as part of a small group.

Future opportunities

A level Physical Education is recognised by all universities as a suitable and beneficial qualification for degree courses. The scientific and practical elements of the course provide an essential background for studying sports industry at degree level.
