This course involves the study of a range of texts spanning the last four centuries and a range of genres. You will learn how to critically analyse poetry, plays and novels from a range of writers such as Christopher Marlowe, William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens and Alice Walker to name but a few. Your developing understanding of historically significant moments and the texts that were produced out of them will enable you to look at your own world through a much more critical and informed lense. Your skills of inference, analysis and evaluation will be developed to allow you to make a range of interpretations of these texts and others.

Students with an A Level in English Literature go on to study English, Law, History and Philosphy among other things. Journalists, writers, lawyers and teachers are some of the most common employment routes but English Literature really is so versatile that it could lead you anywhere.
