Course content

The GCSE in Business and Communication Systems will provide you with a thorough grounding in some of the main elements of business and show you how a successful business organisation is managed and run. Whatever the future holds, you are going to need business skills. This course will introduce you to some of the key elements of every successful business organisation. You will investigate ICT and how a business uses it to manage their organisation and communicate successfully.
You will study a range of topics including:
Organisational Structure
Motivation of Staff
Human Resource Management
E-Commerce and the Internet
Decision Making
You will investigate the use of ICT within a business including the use of:
The Internet and Email
Desktop Publishing
Database Design
Spreadsheet Modeling


The course is examined via three ways very different ways:

(i) ICT Systems in Business - A written exam of 1 hour worth 40% of the final grade.

(ii) Using ICT in Business - A computer based practical exam of 1 hours worth 35% of the final grade.

(iii) Investigating ICT in Business - A controlled assessment activity worth 25% of the final grade

Future opportunities

GCSE Business and Communication Systems will give you a solid grounding in many elements of business and enable you to go on to further study at post-16 in ICT or Business.
