Extended Diploma in Art & Design Level 3 at Ashford College
This course is aimed at those wanting to extend their practical, hands-on making skills and widen their knowledge of art and design disciplines.
You will complete a variety of projects, which will develop your practical skills in drawing, illustration, mixed media, painting, sculptural techniques, 3D design, print making, photography and model making. You will also be required to complete a contextual studies assignment.
All projects emphasise the importance of research and the creative development of coursework, learning along the way about various influences and cultural references to allow for a more personal response. There are research trips each term to galleries and museums to support your studies.
Throughout the course you will develop your portfolio of work to aid your progression onto another programme of study or into employment.
You may also have opportunities to work on directed projects with live briefs and clients, and to exhibit your work externally.
The final project for each year will be selfinitiated and is internally marked and externally moderated by the awarding body. At the end of each year this work will be exhibited in the College End of Year Exhibition.
You will need five GCSEs at Grades A*-C/9-4, including English, maths and an art and design subject. Alternatively a Level 2 First Diploma in Art and Design at Merit or Distinction, with a Grade C/4 GCSE in English and maths. You will be required to attend an interview with your portfolio of art and design work to demonstrate your practical and creative skills. You also need a positive recommendation or reference from your school/tutor.
