French AS/A2 Level at Colchester Royal Grammar School

Course description

Learning French is a rewarding experience for our students. It helps to train them in important academic disciplines and improves their grammatical knowledge as well as their listening and oral skills.

Grammar is also rigorously tested and as a result, students by A level are able to speak and write with flair, fluency and maturity and have excellent comprehension. The Department has extensive resources, including textbooks, magazines, subscriptions to useful language websites, Interactive Whiteboards and other audio-visual equipment.

Sixth-formers are given the opportunity to take part in an exchange with a school in Geneva, where they visit, among other things, the UN offices. Students are also welcome on the water sports adventure holidays in the south of France which run every other year during the summer.

Language skills are increasingly in demand in the workplace, and good GCSE and A Level grades in foreign languages are highly regarded when applying for jobs and university entrance. Students also gain a wider appreciation of other cultures, as well as a useful tool for travel abroad.
