German GCSE at Warlingham School

Course description

The aim of the course is to develop effective use of German for purposes of practical communication and to offer insights into the culture and civilisation of German-speaking countries. Students develop their knowledge of German in each of the four skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing. The topics covered reflect the areas of experience of the National Curriculum: My World Holiday and Travel Work and Freetime Young People Today The students will undertake tasks in these contexts: • Meeting, assisting or acting as a host for a German speaking person visiting this country, • Visiting a German speaking country, • Acting as an intermediary, socially or at work, and • Exploring their own interests and issues related to people of their own age. How will I be assessed? Students are assessed in listening, speaking, reading and writing. There are four modules. Modules 1 – 3 combine to make up 50% of the examination marks. The final examination constitutes 50% and covers all topics and all four skills. Students are entered for Foundation or Higher tiers.
