Business Studies A level at Edmonton County School

Course description

Business Studies puts the student at the centre of the decisions you would have to make starting your own business to analysing how other businesses operate. It combines both a practical attitude to solving problems with the theoretical techniques used to help a firm to arrive at the best solution. The whole A Level course offers introductions to the main areas of business management, marketing, finance and operations.

Course content

Theme 1: Marketing & People. You will be introduced to the market, explore the marketing and people functions and investigate entrepreneurs and business start up.

Theme 2: Managing business activities. Exploring the finance and operations functions, and investigate external influences on business.

Theme 3: Business decisions and strategy. Exploring influences on business strategy and decision-making.

Theme 4: Global business. Carry out an investigate businesses that trade on a global scale and explore their reasons for doing so.

Entry requirements

GCSE Business grade B if studied, or grade B in English and Maths

Assessment

Paper 1: Marketing, people and global businesses: Data response questions, worth 35%

Paper 2: Business activities, decisions and strategy: Data response questions, worth 35%

Paper 3: Investigating business in a competitive environment: Data response questions, worth 35%
