Engineering (Land-Based Engineering) Level 3 at Askham Bryan College

Course description

An advanced and well established qualification which is recognised by industry as demonstrating the technical capability to work in the land-based technology and agricultural engineering sectors and can also be used to progress to degree level courses.  

 

Course content

This hands-on practical course allows students to get to grips with the world of Engineering and experience first hand how to maintain and repair a wide range of agricultural and industial machinery as well as off road vehicles, gaining skills relevant to working in an industry setting.

Course Themes:

• Inspect and test machinery and equipment

• Service and repair engines

• Hydraulic systems and components

• Vehicle engine technology

• Health, safety and welfare

• Chassis systems

• Workshop practice

• Science and mathematics for engineers

• Work experience

• Harvesting machinery

• English and maths provision where applicable  

Entry requirements

Level 3 Study Programmes:

4 GCSEs at grade 4 (old GCSE grade C) or above to include 2 from English, Maths and Science with at least a grade 3 (old GCSE grade D) in the remaining subject. Alternatively a suitable Level 2 vocational qualification (Merit or above) with English, Maths and Science at Level 2

 

 

Assessment

Mainly through assignments set through the course and practical evidence.

Further study:

Higher education qualifications such as Foundation or Honours Degrees in a related subject.

    • The Saltaire Centre is in partnership with Shipley College. Situated in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Saltaire. Easy to get to by bus or train from Leeds, Bradford, Ilkley, Keighley, Bingley and Skipton. The Centre currently offers study programmes in Animal Management.
