Accounting Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship at Basingstoke College of Technology

Course description

This framework has been developed by employers and providers to meet the needs of small and medium size enterprises through to the larger organisations. It provides a structured approach to training and developing prospective Accountants who understand the needs of the organisation, its customers and the sector within which they operate. This course aims to enable candidates to obtain a Level 2 Certificate in Accounting qualification with 24-27 QCF Credits, through the Association of Accounting Technicians professional qualification.

Course content

This Apprenticeship programme is made up of the following four components:

AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting

Knowledge units include:

  • Principles of recording and processing financial transactions
  • Banking procedures
  • Basic principles of costing
  • Professional ethics in accounting and finance

Competence units include:

  • Preparing and recording financial documentation
  • Maintaining and reconciling the cash book
  • Maintaining petty cash records
  • Processing ledger transactions and extracting a trial balance
  • Maintaining the journal
  • Maintaining control accounts
  • Work effectively in accounting and finance
  • Provide basic cost and revenue information

Level 1 Functional Skills in English and maths

Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

Personal Learning & Thinking Skills (PLTS)

Entry requirements

GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths or manual Bookkeeping Level 1 & 2 or other relevant vocational competence. Applicants must like working with numbers and be able to demonstrate the potential for developing good communication skills. This apprenticeship will suit such job roles as Accounts Assistant/Clerk, Cashier, Credit Control Clerk, Finance Assistant, Purchase Ledger Clerk and Sales Ledger Clerk.

Assessment

Each unit will be assessed by a computerised examination.

Financial information

If you are aged 16-18, tuition and registration fees are free. 
If you are aged 19 or over, tuition and registration fees are payable at the start of each year of study; please ask for details.
If you are aged 24 or over, you may be eligible for a Student Loan to assist with your fees; please ask for details.
