BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Business at Prospect School

Course description

A BTEC National Extended Certificate in Business is an exams, a practical, work-related course. Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations and activities such as finance and recruitment.
Students focus on a particular subject area and develop a range of specialist skills and knowledge including communication, problem solving, presentation and interpretation. It is the equivalent to 1 GCE A Level grades.
The BTEC National Extended Certificate in Business provides a broad foundation of business education which enables the learners to progress towards responsible positions in employment or continue in education to gain higher level qualifications.

Course content

Mandatory Units of study include:

  • Exploring Business
  • Developing a Marketing Campaign
  • Personal and Business Finance

Optional Units of study include:
  • Recruitment and Selection Process
  • Investigation Customer Service

Entry requirements

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade 5 or above
  • A BTEC First Certificate at Merit or above if chosen as a Level 2 option
  • GCSE Business Studies at grade C or above if chosen as a Level 2 option

Assessment

  • 60% External Assessment
  • 40% Internal Assessment

Grades awarded are PASS, MERIT, DISTINCTION or DISTINCTION*

Future opportunities

BTEC National Extended Certificate in Business are required for many roles; employers seek individuals who have knowledge of a variety of business activities and situations. They look for employees who are good communicators and who can make valid business decisions and judgements in a variety of circumstances. BTEC qualifications are valued by employers and lead to career opportunities in various employment sectors.
Learners may also progress into Higher education at degree level as BTECs are an acceptable and respectable qualification for many courses including Business and Management, Advertising Account Executive, Chartered Accountant, Human resources manager Investment banker, Management consultant, marketing executive, Retail manager, Supply chain manager.
