Course description

Unit F291: AS Introduction to Business

This unit considers the way in which businesses operate and the effect of the external business environment. The unit is studied within the context of local, national and international constraints on business structure, objectives and environment.This unit is assessed by examination worth 40% of the AS qualification (20% of the final grade).


Unit F292: AS Business Functions

This unit considers the four main behavioural functions of business; marketing, accounting and finance, operations management and human resource management. Candidates will learn to recognise inter-relationships between each of the functions.This unit is assessed by examination based on a pre-released case study. The unit is worth 60% of the AS qualification (30% overall).


Unit F295: A2 Further people in organisations

This module examines the area of communication and the impact of group behaviour in organisations, including aspects such as leadership and management. It also covers the areas of industrial relations and employment law.This unit is assessed by examination and is worth 20% of the final GCE qualification.


Unit F297: A2 Strategic Management

This module examines the nature of business strategy, its development and implementation in the context of specific business situations.

This unit is assessed by examination based on a pre-released case study. The unit is worth 30% of the final GCE qualification.

Entry requirements

A minimum requirement of 3 x A*-B and 3 x A*-C grades at GCSE including English and Mathematics to study 4 A’ levels. A minimum requirement of 5 x A*-C grades at GCSE including English and Mathematics to study 3 A’ levels with directed time. A minimum requirement of a B grade in English Language or Mathematics GCSE for students who wish to study English Literature and Further Mathematics respectively. Other Level 2 qualifications are not accepted as GCSE equivalences.
