Sports/PE Studies AS A2 at Wrenn Academy

Course content

 The course is for all those students interested in PE and sport.  It is both practical and theory based. The course comprises 3 sections at both AS Level and A2: 1.                   Examining the factors which affect your performance in sport (Drugs, Media, Gender etc). 2.                   Examining Anatomy and Physiology and how it affects your Performance. 3.                   Coursework (practical or written).The lessons will be divided between theory aspects, practical sessions and completing the personal exercise programme.

Entry requirements

a)       A keen genuine and proved interest in Physical Education e.g. playing for a club out of school time and a prior record in representing the school.b)       Grade C or better in G.C.S.E Physical Education.c)       Grade C or better in G.C.S.E. Science.


Practical AssessmentStudents will be expected to demonstrate practical ability in one chosen sport. 5 key skills will be examined, as well as a performance during a competitive situation. The sport can be selected from a very wide range of activities.Students are expected to complete a personal exercise programme where they attempt to improve one aspect of their fitness through regular visits to a gym.Written AssessmentYou will sit 2 exams of 1½ hours, based on the theory modules.
