Health & Social Care BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate at Harlow College

Course description

Health and social care is about supporting and caring for everyone, from grandparents to babies and everyone in between! It encompasses all parts of society across a range of health needs that include physical, mental, emotional and behavioural.

A job in health and social care is demanding and challenging but extremely rewarding. This course offers a wide range of units that enable you to gain insights into the areas you would like to progress into. Placements offer practical experience, offering you the chance to gain key knowledge and confirm which areas of health and social care you are interested in.

The course is assignment based, with a minimum of 60 hours of work experience.
Students who only need to do one GCSE resit will also do half a day a week volunteering, which will enhance their employability on completion of the programme.

Course content

The Health & Care sector sector is growing fast, with a need for many more staff to care for those in our society who are unwell or vulnerable. There is also a need for highly trained personnel to care for our rapidly ageing population.

This course offers you a first step into your chosen career. Students who achieve a minimum of a Merit at this level have the opportunity to progress onto Level 3.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grades D to E including English and Maths.

DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance.

Assessment

Two externally set examinations.
Assignments.

Financial information

Textbook approximately £25. DBS fee approximately £45. Compulsory trips approximately £35. Non-compulsory trips approximately £100.

Future opportunities

Students who achieve at least a Merit at Level 2 will have the opportunity to progress onto Level 3.

Students can also progress onto an Apprenticeship in Health & Social Care or employment.
