Access to HE - Humanities and Social Sciences Level 3 Diploma at North Lindsey College
The Access to Higher Education Diploma is designed for students who wish to study for a Higher Education qualification such as a degree, foundation degree or Higher National Diploma but who do not have Level 3 qualifications. This is a substantial part-time programme.
All students study the mandatory core skills unit and choose additional units which
they require in order to progress on their individual progression route. The additional units could include Biology, Sociology, Social Policy, Health and Fitness Testing, Psychology, Maths and English. Students without GCSEs in Mathematics or English have
the opportunity to gain a GCSE equivalence certificate in each.
A full learning support service and help with university applications is available to all Access students.
Prospective students will normally be invited to attend an information session at
College to find out more about the Access course. Selection for the Access course will be based on Quality Assurance Agency Guidelines:
Prospective students should:
- communicate a clear idea of the type of higher education course they intend to apply for
- demonstrate a commitment of time required to complete the course
- have GCSE grade A* - C in English or Math or have achieved an equivalent at Level 2
- complete a short selection test.
The course is assessed at Level 3 which is broadly equivalent to A Level.
Successful completion of the course leads to the Access to Higher Education Diploma,
which is validated by CERTA. Access courses are recognised by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). A student who successfully completes an Access course is awarded a certificate bearing the QAA Access logo. Many university admissions tutors
welcome an Access to Higher Education Award as an entry qualification.
