Shop Fitting Diploma Level 3 at New College Stamford

Course description

This course will advanceyour knowledge and understanding of Bench Joinery whilst specialising in the craft of Shop Fitting. You will gain practical experience constructing shop windows and more complex shop fitting products. You will also gain experience through a work placement to give you a real insight in to shop fitting.You will have the opportunity to visit the Construction Trade Fair at the NEC in Birmingham, as well as other trade based events. You can also take part in regional and national competitions such as World Skills Build which has seen the very best in Construction compete for 45 years.This course is approximately 30% theory and 70% practical.

Course content

You will complete work books and assignments using online resources. At level 3 you will be expected to demonstrate independent learning to prepare you for employment and continued professional development. ou will also take part in a Construction work placement which will give you on-site experience alongside opportunities to complete relevant community projects with New College Stamford. You will be expected to undertake 1 week work experience on a construction site, in a workshop or in a construction related field. While we will help you to find the work experience, in some instances it may not be possible to gain this; if this is the case then you will then undertake a week of employment related activities. You will also have the opportunity to take part in undertaking community projects with New College Stamford.

Entry requirements

5GCSE’s at grades D or above, or a Level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry/Shop Fitting.

Assessment

Each unit has a multiple choice core test, as well a practical synoptic test in the workshop. You will receive regular feedback on your performance and help and advice to enable you to be successful in the actual assessments.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this course you can progress to job roles such as a Site Carpenter or Bench Joiner, Timber Salesman, Machinist or progress on to further study with Apprenticeship in Construction Management or a HNC/HND in Construction

Further information

You will be required to supply your own full length work trousers and safety footwear for the workshop, along with a change of footwear when leaving the workshop. You will also need course specific text books and stationery. You will be sent a full list of materials and equipment prior to enrolment.
