Media A Level at Grace Academy Darlaston
Media Studies is a dynamic, growing subject; increasingly popular and relevant in modern society. If you are interested in Media and wish to explore how the media operates, this course will provide a good framework.
Media Studies is increasingly relevant in today’s society; we live in a media saturated world which influences all aspects of our lives. It is also one of the fastest growing employment sectors world-wide.
Students will learn how to analyse critically the way in which the world is presented to the audiences on television, in newspapers, on radio and in other media. The course also offers the opportunity to acquire some skills in practical video, print and web design. In the first and second years, the course is 50% theory and 50% practical. The course involves a critical analytical approach to understanding the production and consumption of media texts. You will learn about the importance of media language, narrative, genre, audiences, institutions, ideology and representation. To help student learners, we will organise trips to the Warner Brothers Studio, BFI and London based post production companies.
The requirements for this course are preferably a GCSE in Media Studies or Digital Communications (but all applicants will be considered).
This qualification can be studied in Higher Education and can lead successfully to a career working in a number of exciting creative industries such as Radio, Television or Film, in addition to a career in Marketing or Advertising, or it can just give you the skills to understand how people communicate and the skills to analyse media with a critical eye.
