Internal Assessment (40%) * Assessment of practical skills (10%), where the teacher is assessing the student's ability to follow instructions, collect data ( by taking readings and measurements, making observations and by using ICT) and to present their raw results. Non-moderated. * Assessment activities (30%), provided by Edexcel, marked by the teacher and externally moderated by an examiner appointed by Edexcel. A choice of further assessment routes available (60%) Students must attempt two out of three routes for each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics; each assessment contributes 10%. * Internally -assessed centre- divides * Externally - assessed multiple-choice tiered tests available in January and June. * Externally - assessed structured tiered examination papers available in January and June. Possible Assessment Routes. 1 - Route giving maximum external assessment: Compulsory internally assessed unit plus two externally - assessed units (Internal Assessment 40%, External Assessment 60%). 2 - Route giving maximum internal assessment: Compulsory internally - assesses unit plus externally-assessed unit plus centre-devised internally assessed unit ( Internal Assessment 70%, External Assessment 30%)
You could take this course, which is equivalent to two GCSE's, to prepare for advanced level courses such as an A/AS Level in Science and specialise in one area of science or you may need to strengthen your grades by completing a foundation or intermediate vocational qualification. With further training, you could go into a job related to science such as a Teacher, Pharmacist or Science Technician . You could also go straight into employment and do further training or part time study with the support of your employer.
