Sport Science - BTEC Level 2 First Extended Certificate at City and Islington College

Course description

Aged 16-18 and interested in a career in sports or leisure? Want to know more about how nutrition and training help athletes achieve their ambitions? The BTEC Level Diploma could be for you.

Course content

The course gives you a thorough grounding in both the practical and theoretical aspects of Sport Science. You will study the following modules: Anatomy, Health and Safety, Sports Psychology, Nutrition, Fitness Testing, Practical Sport.

Entry requirements

  • You need four GCSEs at grade D or above (these must include Science, Maths and English),
  • or a Level 1 Diploma in Science (at Merit or above) along with Functional Skills in Maths and English at Level 1.
  • You must also have a good reference from a school and employer.
  • You will be assessed on your aptitude and enthusiasm in a formal interview and assessment prior to enrolment.

 

Assessment

The course is assessed continually throughout the year by both coursework, which takes the form of assignments set at intervals throughout the year, and some external assessments.

Future opportunities

This course prepares you for progression within the College onto a Level 3 sport course, or for employment in the sport or leisure industry.
