History at Willenhall E-ACT Academy
At AS/A-level History students will learn about and discuss issues which have affected the world we live in today. The topics covered include Pursuing life and liberty, which explores Russia under Stalin’s rule and the Civil Rights Movement in the USA, Poverty Public Health and Housing in the 19th Century and World War II. The topics give students the opportunity to examine both British and non-British history. Students will also be expected to take part in lively debates to develop their analytical skills.
You will have the opportunity to attend lectures and conferences in Birmingham. Students will have the opportunity to visit the Local History Centre, A Nottingham Workhouse and other places of historical interest.
History tasks practised include source work skills, reading, essay writing, discussions, and presentations, paired and group work as well as developing independent learning skills.
A minimum of Grade C in GCSE History or English. Students should have a genuine interest in History and the world around them. A willingness to spend time reading history texts and an ability to enjoy expressing your own opinions and to argue clearly in discussions and writing is an advantage.
AS level will comprise two units of assessment in the form of end of course examination. These units will test the skills in knowledge and understanding, causation, continuity and change as well as historical enquiry.
A2 level will comprise an additional two units of assessment. As well as examination in the skills already tested at AS level. The A2 level will include a coursework assignment
Studying History at A2 level offers an exciting opportunity for students to develop important skills in communication which are invaluable skills and highly regarded by employees. History is a good choice for students considering a degree or career in Law, Politics, Journalism, Management, Teaching and the Civil Service
