Introduction to Professional Cookery and Food & Drink Service Level 1 Diploma at Carshalton College

Course description

This course is suitable for anyone with an interest in cooking and food service who wants to work in the hospitality industry or progress onto Level 2 and Level 3 cookery qualifications.

Part of this course involves preparing and serving meals for the public in the College's fully equipped training restaurant.

You will also be expected to study for qualifications in Food Hygiene and Health and Safety.

Course content

The units you will be studying on your course will be:

  • Food Preparation and Cooking
  • Food Service and Drink
  • Catering Theory
  • Food Hygiene
  • Health & Safety in the workplace

 

You will also have the opportunity to gain work experience throughout your course.

Entry requirements

Three GCSEs grades E or above (English essential) or other related qualifications and experience.

A positive reference from school, employer or tutor (if progressing or from another college) is essential, together with excellent attendance and punctuality records.

Assessment

You will be assessed in a variety of practical tests and observation throughout your course.

Future opportunities

Progression to Level 2 is dependent on successful completion of Level 1 and the achievement of a Merit grade. Progression onto an advanced apprenticeship where you would be in college one day a week and in the workplace for four days.
