Food Technology AS level at Nottingham Girl's Academy

Course description

Anyone interested in the food industry or jobs relating to food and nutrition. People will always need to eat and the food industry is the world’s fastest growing market. There will always be jobs in this sector and the opportunity to develop as a food designer.

Course content

You will study the design and manufacture of food, nutrition and the application of food science.

Units covered at AS

Unit 1: materials, components and application

  • Examples of areas covered include; food nutrients, additives, dietary planning, food choice, food safety and legislation.

Unit 2: Learning through designing and making

  • Approximately 50hours of coursework which will take both written and practical format.

Entry requirements

5+ A*-C grades at GCSE including grade C or above in English and science. BTEC hospitality at level 2 would be advisable.


Examination 25%, coursework 25%.

Future opportunities

University courses in food and nutrition/food manufacture. Jobs relating to the food industry such as a new product designer or nutritionist.
