Physics A Level at The Bishop Wand Church of England School

Course description

If you are curious, questioning, logical and interested in the universe, then this is the course for you!

We will embark upon a voyage of discovery spanning the vastness of the observable universe and deconstructing the building blocks of matter and the forces which hold them together.

We will hone our practical skills and become competent and methodical practitioners, able to analyse the data we collect without bias and evaluate the limitations of our experiments.

Module 2: Force and Motion
Module 3: Electrons
Module 4: Waves and Photons
Module 5: Newtonian World and Astrophysics
Module 6: Particles and Medical Physics

Entry requirements

GCSE Physics B or Science B/B and English/Math 5

Assessment

Paper 1: Modelling Physics 2 hours 15 min (37%)
Paper 2 Exploring Physics 2 hours 15 min (37%)
Paper 3: Unified Physics 1 hour 30min Synoptic Questions (26%)
Practical Endorsement for Physics, pass or fail (not examined but reported separately)

A wide range of questions types which include multiple choice, short answer and extended response questions.

Future opportunities

The sky is not even the limit. Physics is a universally respected A Level and although you will probably be so enthralled by Physics you want to go on and study it in its pure form at university the skills you have developed are a gateway to any career.
