A Level: History at Beauchamp College
If you have enjoyed History at GCSE you should enjoy it at A Level.
The A level History course is changing in 2015. It will cover British and American History between the 17th and 20th Centuries. Specific details of the content and assessment are yet to be confirmed by AQA.
5 grade 5s (or equivalent), plus at least grade 5 in English Language or Literature.
At least a 5 in the relevant subject if taken.
5 in English Language is recommended.
There will be a coursework component worth 20% of the A level, which will involve an independently researched Historical Enquiry of 4,000 words.
A Level History is highly respected as being academically rigorous and has a high status in the marketplace. Careers such as Law, Journalism, Business Management, Marketing and Teaching are open to students with a History qualification. All of these career paths require the communication and critical thinking skills that History helps to develop.
Students wishing to study A Level History will need good literacy skills. A GCSE C grade in English Language and a Humanities subject is required, and a willingness to read academic books.
