Aviation Operations BTEC Subsidiary Diploma Level 3 at New College Nottingham

Course description

ncn is one of only 16 Swissport academies in the country and has key industry links with the global airline support service.

Gaining an in-depth understanding of the UK aviation industry will put you at the top of the list for any job application in this sector.

This competitive industry prefer their applicants to have a thorough background knowledge in aviation and any study you can do to help progress this will stand you in good stead at an interview.

Having progressed to this level you will learn about aviation terminology, how to manage conflict and much more to gain roles in aviation from cabin crew to ground operations.

This course will fully prepare you for a job at any airport, from organising ramps on the runway to working on the check-in desk. This course certainly provides variety and the opportunity to learn about the sector.

Helping you develop your understanding of the airport environment, this up-to-date qualification, based on current industry standards, will get you quickly up to speed for any role in the field.

Course content

The course offers you the opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised qualification.

Working with tutors who have the latest specialist knowledge, you will quickly learn what it takes to work in aviation. 
 
Units you will study include:

- The UK aviation industry
- Health & Safety in the aviation industry
- Aviation geography and terminology
- Managing conflict in aviation
- Customer service in the aviation industry

You will also study a qualification in Preparation for Employment in the Aviation industry.

Entry requirements

You must have one of the following:

5 GCSEs at grades A*- C including maths or English or equivalent

Level 2 City & Guilds Diploma in The Aviation Environment or Travel & Tourism at merit, plus GCSE English or maths at grade A*-C

Assessment

You will be asked to take part in an externally set scenario-based assessment alongside practical and written assignments.

    • This former lace mill from the 1800s was once the centrepoint of the UK's world renowned lace manufacturing industry but now it's home to more than 50 of ncn's courses, including TV, Film and Digital Industries, Fashion, Multimedia, Games Development, Business and Administration, Aviation, Travel and Tourism, our HE Centre, ICT and many more.

       
      The building itself is some seven floors and in our fashion and textiles rooms right at the top of the building, you can enjoy some amazing views of the city.
       
      Across the road we have our Visual Arts Academy housed within another impressive building located at 25 Stoney Street. Here we have vast rooms and studios with amazing light so that all our art, design and photography students can do their thing.
       
      It's no coincidence that ncn's Visual Arts and Fashion and Media and Digital Academies are in the heart of the Lace Market. The area has been named Nottingham's Creative Quarter where hundreds of small creative businesses operate from. This connnectivity and vibrant environment gives our creative students a head start!
