Core Mathematics A Level at South Bromsgrove High

Course description

Core Maths is a brand new range of post 16, level 3 qualifications aimed at anyone with at least a C at GCSE, not taking A Level Maths.

We will be following the MEI OCR Quantitative Problem Solving Course, which leads to a recognised qualification with UCAS points attached. It will include topics like statistics, probability, advanced calculation and modelling, and will develop mathematical thinking and problem solving skills in the real world context.

Core Maths will help develop skills that are transferable to other subject areas, thus improving your chances at Sixth Form level, but also make you more marketable and a better prospect for future employment. It also supports the Maths contained in other A Level subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Psychology, Business Studies and Economics.

If you are thinking of teaching as a future career then it would be helpful to keep an element of Maths going as you will need to pass a Maths QTS (test) before you can start the course
