Hairdressing: Level 1 - Intro to the Hair & Beauty Sector: City&Guilds VRQ Diploma at NESCOT

Course description

This study programme will enable you to achieve a Level 1 Diploma in Hairdressing and successful completion of the programme will enable you to progress to L2 Hairdressing if you meet the entry requirements for the L2 course.

Course content

The course consists of theoretical lessons, combined with the development of practical skills. Both courses are college-based and you will also continue to develop your skills in Maths and English.

Hair units include shampooing & blowdrying, plaiting, basic colouring as well as developing your awareness of the hair & beauty industries. You will also cover basic manicure, nail art and face painting to enhance your artistic abilities for photoshoots and hairshows . You will also study English and Maths functional skills together with units from the personal and social developments syllabi.

Entry requirements

Three GCSEs at Grade D.  If students do not possess a ā€˜Dā€™ Grade in English then a minimum of E3 must be achieved in English at initial assessment.

Assessment

Assessment includes written assignments and practical observations.

Future opportunities

Successful students who receive the Level 1 qualification in Hair can progress on to a Level 2 hairdressing qualification. Successful students who achieve the Level 1 qualification in Beauty can progress on to Level 2 Beauty.

      Nescot is located just off the A240 (Reigate Road), close to the junction with the A24 (Ewell Bypass).  The College is just five miles inside the M25 (Junction 9).
      There is a large, free car park for use by students and visitors.

      By Rail:
      Nescot is served by two mainline railway stations.
      Ewell East (Southern Railway)
      Ewell East is a two-minute walk from the College from a public footpath leading off Platform 2.  Trains run every half-hour from London Victoria.
      Ewell West (South West Trains)
      Ewell West, which is 15 minutes walk from the College, is on the main line from London Waterloo.
