Personal Training Academy & Sport Massage (Under 19) Level 3 Award at Chichester College

Course description

Personal Training and Sports Massage are increasing in popularity with the number of jobs increasing. This qualification give learners the knowledge and skills to work with individual and groups of clients in a personal training. This qualification also ensures learners the knowledge, integrity, competency and proficiency to perform sports massage on a range of clients who have no underlying pathological conditions. 

Course content

The learner must achieve all mandatory units which include anatomy and physiology, nutrition, person training methods and sports massage techniques, legal implications and sports massage modalities. The learner must achieve all units for the PT course: * Anatomy and physiology for exercise and health * Know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity * Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment * Principles of exercise, fitness and health * Applying the principles of nutrition to a physical activity programme * Programming personal training with clients * Delivering personal training sessions Sports Massage Units include: • Anatomy and physiology for Sports Massage • Assisting soft tissue repair • Professional practice in sports massage • Assessing clients and treatment planning • Applying sports massage techniques • Providing post-treatment care If you are aged 16-18 you will follow a study programme consisting of your main qualification, English and maths, enterprise and enrichment.

Sessions will be practically taught as well as classroom based theory lessons. Sessions will be in the Gym, Multi-use room and Sports hall, along with theory in Classrooms. There will be peer assessment and working with the community. You will be supported and guided through this, then expected to lead your sessions.

Entry requirements

A suitable L2 qualification in Gym instructing and GCSEs in English and Maths. The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential, therefore a degree of physical fitness is necessary. 


You will be continually assessed throughout the course both formally and informally. The main assessment for the qualifications include: •Coursework •Multiple Choice Examination •Portfolio of Evidence •Practical Demonstration/Assignment

Future opportunities

Successful achievement of the qualification will allow the learner to gain employment within an organisational setting or alternatively in a self-employed environment. Or additional Active IQ qualifications, such as suspension training or lower back
